Granblue Fantasy is a mobile game/web browser game with plenty of story and lore (in English, even.) Unfortunately, none of the Wiki documents the main story and mainly covers the in-game meta. While the story mainly focuses on the captain's crew (the player, sometimes known as Gran/Djeeta, Lyria, Io, Rosetta, Eugen, Rackam, and Vyrn), Orchid still plays a prominent role in a handful of chapters. Orchid will be coming in from her last appearance in the main story and Black Knight's Level 100 FATE episode. Currently, the GBF main story goes up to a lengthy 132+ chapters and I've done my best to cover Orchid's appearances. Please let me know if this isn't enough to go off on.

Personality:

Before properly gaining her name "Orchid", she was originally a young, blank soul born in the empty shell of another person's body, the princess Orchis. Often, she was referred to as a doll who speaks very few words and displays little to no emotion outwardly. At least, that's how it might seem like at first.

Buried beneath Orchid's seemingly cool exterior is an abundance of thoughts and emotions much like any ordinary person. In most instances, she's inclined to speak her feelings at length when it's necessary. When first proposing to go on her solo journey, she pours out her feelings to Orchis and Adam, speaking out how she wants to be helpful to those that created her. However, she has moments where she needs to be looked in the eye and directly asked what she truly wants. When her group of traveling companions decide to split up on Lumacie, she's conflicted on who to follow, especially since she cares for both sides. It's Drang that calmly asks what she wants to do and ultimately, she decides to travel with larger company, while placing her trust in the smaller group.

Simply being friendly is a quick way into the doll girl's heart. Similarly, she's just as eager to reciprocate friendships with others. When Lyria and Io first offer their friendship to Orchid, it's one of her first moments showing a sign of a personality. When the Black Knight separates her from the Grandcypher crew, she shows hesitation, even going as far as crying out. Another example is during her solo journey with Lloyd, she's kidnapped along with a smaller girl. After their escape, the two become fast friends despite knowing each other for a short time.

She points out the positive qualities of others and jumps to the defense of those closest to her, sometimes even of the most suspicious characters. Before meeting the Grandcypher crew, she traveled with what may seem a group of questionable individuals. When Vyrn calls out the shadiness of Sturm and Drang, Orchid vouches for both of them, telling the others that they played with her and gave her candy. Then there's the Black Knight, who seems cold and despite having questionable methods, Orchid holds a lot of love for her. When Io speaks ill of the Black Knight, she defends her by saying that she did nothing wrong.

Whenever she makes a grave error, especially when circumstances are dire, she's ready to take responsibility. She has awareness to her mistakes, or at least, what she believes is her own fault. Throughout her adventures in the Phantagrande Skydom, she feels guilty over many of the events that transpire and tends to be hard on herself. While first venturing Lumacie's forests with the Grandcypher crew, she apologizes over an encounter with a dangerous golem after following its familiar scent. Many of the primal beasts are awakened and driven into a rampage due to her Astral power. Especially with her senses, she's capable of picking up on a primal's emotions. Upon feeling Yggdrasil's sorrow, she breaks down into tears as she expresses regret over her actions. Often, she's apologetic over her decisions, especially whenever the situation changes for the worst.

Though she has moments where she doubts herself, finding she's unsuited for larger roles such as a queen or a captain of a crew, she's strong-willed. When she learns the Erste Kingdom's army is unable to keep the primal beast Akasha in check, she finds purpose by volunteering to control it, while using the war-machine golem Lloyd as a vessel. While her idea is initially met with hesitation, especially since it also meant to send her off into isolation, she doesn't back down from it. It's her determination and stubbornness that allows her to win out, although she also promises to return home someday.

Her interactions with the world and the loved ones around her is what allowed her spirit come to be. And it's the people she loves that allowed her to continue to live on as her own person. As a result, she has a strong indebtedness to the world. Lacking any sort of combat skill to defend herself or fight back, she desires to be useful. She feels the need to give back since everyone's always protecting her.

Frighteningly selfless, she's willing to give up her own life in favor of the happiness of others. When learning of the Black Knight's goals of reviving the original Orchis, she's set on returning her body to the rightful owner. Despite how many times her friends protest against her decisions, she insists on helping the Black Knight accomplishing her dream no matter what. However, her sacrifice is later averted by the soul of the original Orchis. As much as she claims that she's willing to give up all of herself to her loved ones, it's a path that she tries to avoid since "Apollo and Orchis will be sad." If worst comes to worst, however, she's likely to put the needs of others before herself.

Though mostly a gentle soul, she surprisingly has her occasional moments of snark, mainly towards hostile individuals who believe to have the upper hand over her. When her automaton guardian Lloyd appears from the shadows, shocking her kidnapper, she mentions that he came in through the front door, though technically he's by her side at all times. There are also some implications that she may have inherited similar personality traits and interests from her "sister" Orchis, such as her stubborn side, a love for eating, reading, and enjoy the happy endings in stories.

The longer one spends time around Orchid, it's easy to notice that she's more than just a doll. She has feelings just like any individual. She's capable of smiling, laughing, and crying, although her expressions are very subdued and never to the extreme. And since acquiring a body of her own, she gradually grows to be more expressive than usual. Sometimes even mimicking the traits of those closest to her. In Vyrn's words, Orchid is best described to be "a little weird", but a perfectly normal girl.

Abilities & Skills:

Advanced Golem Body - Sadly, Granblue doesn't go too in-depth with how Orchid's golem physiology even works... regular golems are mentioned to be made up of earth and ore, so it may be safe to say that's what most of her chassis is composed of and what might possibly be underneath artificial skin. She's described to be built in a way that she can be mistaken for a human, at least until a person looks at her ball-jointed limbs.

Somehow, she's shown to be capable of human functions, such as eating, drinking, crying, sleeping, etc. The only differences may be is that she's incapable of aging and her body is much more sturdier than a human. According to Adam, "golems don't perish, thus a great deal of damage to the body is no more than a temporary functional impairment." The archive mentions that she needs a lot of power to run and requires a healthy appetite, which might explain why she eats a lot... besides that being one of her hobbies.

Astral Power (also referred to as "the power of the stars") - Granblue's world classifies the power of the Astrals as something uniquely separate from regular magic according to the archives. Ordinary magic is incapable of controlling the primal beasts. Having originally been born in the body of the princess with a lineage to the Astrals, Orchid also carries their power.

- Heightened sensitivity to primal beasts, supernatural entities, or other higher life forms -

She can sense the location of primal beasts and other powerful beings by the power that emanates from them. The closer she is, then the more stronger the presence. She has some sort of empathic ability when it comes to primals. Feelings such as whether they're resting, close to waking, as well as sadness, anger, and contentment are a few examples of what she might be able to discern. It's sometimes described as a "voice".

Too much happening in her surroundings can affect her senses and act as disruptive noise. Some beings are able to conceal their powers by taking on a mortal appearance.

Her heightened sensitivity is not only limited to primals. An example is when visiting a shrine on Hermit Island, she picks up on an opposing power from a completely different kind of being in a forest. The unknown presence is enough to make her feel frightened and she describes it as if the forest "hates" her.

- Summoning/controlling primal beasts - She has the ability to awaken the primal beasts from dormancy, absorb their essence, and command them to some extent. Instances where she is incapable of controlling them is when their power is flowing out of control, which usually means they're going on a rampage. In that case, the primal needs to be weakened before being put back into its slumber by absorbing some of its power.

Canon is a little unclear on the details on how it works from Orchid's end. Presumably she possesses the same powers as Lyria, the other individual with Astral power. However, it appears that Orchid can't hold a primal's power for long, possibly because she lacks the crystal Lyria has on her chest. While shown to absorb a primal beast or a portion of its power, it seems that it's only temporary and fades over time. She also allows the primal Deus Ex Machina to dwell inside of her body, but she uses its power immediately afterward.

Some primals require a vessel for Orchid to properly command. This method seems to be reserved for more extremely powerful, unstable primals. An example is that Lyria can be used as a vessel to hold the primal and Orchid as a key to activate its power.

Connection to Queen Orchis - It's implied that Orchid and Queen Orchis's souls have some sort of link. Orchid can tell when Orchis is waking up or if she's in danger. It randomly happens and there isn't much other explanation for it.

Automaton Lloyd - Part of her powers in canon is accessible only if she's paired with Lloyd. Orchid's own automaton guardian, Lloyd, has the eternal soul of the primal beast Akasha residing inside of it, which also allows her to have control over it. She mentions that Lloyd is always by her side and keeps him concealed. Upon calling for him, he emerges from a shadowy void behind her. It lacks limbs on the lower half of its body and hovers behind its master. Together with Lloyd, she becomes a dark-based combatant.

Orchid has a strong affinity to the Dark element. There is a likelihood in that canon may give her another element in the future, just like many other Granblue characters and their multiple units. Having Lloyd around (as well as being the vessel for a primal beast) grants her some extra abilities, which are all aspected to the Dark element:

- Girlish Grit - Orchid moves more quickly, with a high likelihood to dodge attacks. However, her defenses are low should anyone land a hit on her.

- Puppet Strings - The wires in her fingers are magical in nature. They can retract and detract. Additionally, they can prove to be deadly. Through quick movements, the wires are able to act as a weapon that cuts like a razor.

Though Lloyd is equipped with its own self-defense mechanism, she can use her wires to guide its punches. It can attach itself to surfaces and bind objects together. With enough pressure, it's still possible to break out from the bindings. The strings are strong enough to allow her to scale up the side of a tower. She is also shown to be able to safely grab people falling from long heights with her strings.

- Oblivion - A shadow-based attack. Lloyd infuses his claws with dark energy and swipes away at random enemies.

- Ancestral Aegis - A large boost to abilities with a dark aspect and cuts down damage received from light-based attacks. This is a magical enhancement that wears off after a time and takes time to be cast again.

- Endbringer - Her Charge Attack (similar to Final Fantasy limit breaks), Endbringer. A powerful Dark-based attack that builds up over time the longer Orchid and Lloyd fight. Very much similar stretches multitudes of strings from different directions that pierces and pins her enemy in place. It's followed up by Lloyd's own attack, who slashes away with claws infused with dark energy.

Inventory/Companions: Her clothes, friendship ring from Apollonia, her stuffed cat. While Lloyd is mentioned, she will not be bringing her automaton with her and the above abilities are obviously for reference.

Choice: Witch
Reason: Having ties to the Astrals and when utilizing the powers of a primal beast, she's very much similar to being a Witch. In her beginnings, she's often shown commanding primals to hurt others. While she's capable of sealing them away, Lyria, another girl with Astral powers, is mainly shown to be the one to clean up her mess. I thought it would be interesting for her to attempt to recreate her abilities using the Coven's magic and now that she comes from a point past being used by an evil empire, she could use it for good. Since she also doesn't have Lloyd/Akasha in her possession, it would be a challenge for her to find a way to make up for her loss of power. If she attains a Bond in the future, it would be a fun way to see how it affects her magic!
